Paver Calculator
Find out how many pavers a patio or walkway needs. Enter the area and choose a paver size — the calculator returns the paver count with a cutting/waste allowance.
How it works
Area = length × width (sq ft). Pavers = area ÷ paver area (sq ft) × (1 + waste%), rounded up. A 4 × 8 in paver covers 0.222 sq ft, a 12 × 12 in paver covers 1 sq ft.
Frequently asked questions
How many pavers do I need per square foot?
It depends on size: about 4.5 of the 4 × 8 in brick pavers per square foot, or exactly 1 of the 12 × 12 in pavers per square foot.
How much extra should I buy for cuts?
Add about 10% for straight layouts and 15% for diagonal or herringbone patterns to cover cuts and breakage.
Do I need a gravel base under pavers?
Yes — a typical patio base is 4–6 in of compacted gravel plus 1 in of bedding sand. Use the gravel calculator to estimate the base.
