How it works

Cubic yards = length × width × (thickness ÷ 12) ÷ 27. Ready-mix is ordered in ¼ yard steps and a full truck holds about 10 cubic yards. The calculator adds your waste allowance, then rounds the order up to the next quarter yard.

How many cubic yards of concrete do I need?

Multiply length × width × thickness (all in feet), then divide by 27. For thickness in inches, divide by 12 first. This calculator does it and adds a waste allowance.

How many yards is a truck load of concrete?

A full ready-mix truck carries about 10 cubic yards. Below that you can still order a short load, but suppliers usually add a short-load fee under 4–5 yards.

Should I round the order up?

Yes — order to the next ¼ yard and keep a 5–10% cushion. Running short mid-pour means a cold joint, so it is better to have a little extra.
